Ann Pickering
Consultant Solicitor – Wills, Probate, Trusts & Powers of Attorney
T: 020 8659 3998 | E: ann.pickering@austenjonessolicitors.co.uk
Ann provides friendly, flexible and efficient legal services in all areas of private client law and typically handles work including:
- Wills and probate
- Preparing lasting powers of attorney
- Dealing with Court of Protection applications
- Setting up trusts
- Inheritance tax planning
- Property transfers
Working as a consultant solicitor means Ann is able to provide a very flexible service. She offers clients consultations by phone, email, Skype or Facetime and is happy to carry out home visits across South London, North Kent and Surrey including Dulwich, Camberwell, Peckham, Greenwich, Beckenham, Bromley, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Streatham, Croydon, Sutton, Cheam and Banstead.

However, appreciating just how difficult it is for some people to get to a solicitor’s office for a nine-to-five appointment, she also offers the option of telephone contact and home visits outside of office hours.
Progressing her clients’ cases quickly and efficiently is especially important to her. Legal work sometimes has a reputation for ‘dragging on’, so Ann likes to limit her workload to be sure of delivering on time. Typically, she aims to have a draft will sent out within two working days and, for grant-only services, the probate papers delivered within seven days.
Keeping prices affordable is also paramount and Ann ensures that fees for all her services are fixed at the outset. In probate matters, she works alongside her clients, involving herself as little or as much as they want. If necessary, she can take matters off their hands entirely or can limit her role to legal drafting and the preparation of inheritance tax accounts.
Always positive, Ann is highly regarded by her clients who appreciate her pragmatic approach and very personalised service. ‘I like to put myself in the client’s shoes to understand how they would like to be treated. I listen to what they have to say, I give clear step-by-step guidance and I always keep them in the picture.’
Ann’s considerable legal experience has included a position as Head of Private Client with a small firm in Surrey and a stint at a Legal 500 firm where she honed her skills before deciding to work as a consultant solicitor.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Ann worked as a researcher and lecturer for 15 years in the NHS and the university sector. She has also spent time as a carer which has given her a better understanding of the difficulties faced by the elderly and the people who care for them.
Ann has acquired degrees in social policy, law and statistics and is a fully qualified member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
